Fort Bend Performing Arts Series Presents Three Mo’ Tenors
Fort Bend Performing Arts Series is pleased to present Three Mo’ Tenors in concert on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. The tenors of Three Mo’ Tenors are classically trained African-American men who have developed a musical repertoire with extraordinary breadth! They hit the high C’s in OPERA, belt out BROADWAY, deliver the GOSPEL, bend the BLUES, sass the JAZZ, stir the SOUL, and lift SPIRITUALS right off the ground!
Conceived and directed by veteran Broadway performer, choreographer and director Marion J. Caffey, Three Mo’ Tenors first came to national prominence in 2001 when RCA released the recording of the show and it was televised by PBS’ “Great Performances.” Caffey’s original idea behind the show was to elevate the stature of classical African-American singers and give them a place to sing so they could get noticed. Fewer and fewer black singers were even training classically because there wasn’t a market for it. But the show has turned into something of its own! These tenors display unrivalled versatility as they slide in and out of diverse musical genres without missing a beat! Factoring in their excellent showmanship, they are electrifying audiences and earning rave reviews across the country.
The Boston Herald says, “A joyous celebration that blows the roof off the house.” The Boston Globe says, “Three Mo’ Tenors has been playing to deliriously happy audiences across the country. They’ve learned to work together and give the public a sensationally good time.” The Chicago Tribune says, “It’s impossible not to like the show.”
“The Mo’ concept is alive and well,” says Caffey, and one whose appeal is not limited any one style of audience. “It transcends race, creed and color and offers something for everyone from teenagers to music lovers in their 90’s. Watching them is poetic. It’s like watching athletes displaying their athletic prowess-you know sprint, long distance and hurdles-only apply it to music. What separates the Three Mo’ Tenors from a lot of other musicians of their genre is that they cross a lot of styles; they do all the eight operatic styles of music.
