Fort Bend Performing Arts Series Presents Selah
Fort Bend Performing Arts Series is pleased to present SELAH in concert on SATURDAY April 29, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Vocal trio SELAH began in 1999 with their simply recorded debut, Be Still My Soul, featuring the trio singing old hymns and spirituals with piano accompaniment and vocal harmonies. This was hardly an original approach to Christian music, and no one would have expected it to sell more than 100,000 copies and earn SELAH a Dove Award for Inspirational Album of the Year. Since then, SELAH has successfully introduced hymns and classic songs of faith to a new generation of listeners using beautiful harmonies and “modern” musical sounds.
Their unique contribution to the Christian music industry has garnered the group a total of six Dove Awards, two consecutive Dove Award nominations for Group of the Year, two #1 hits and five Top 10 singles, repeat appearances on such respected television programs as “The 700 Club” and the “Hour of Power” and even a chance to perform on the stage of New York’s legendary Carnegie Hall.
What’s the secret to SELAH? What sets this musical group apart from all others? All three members are exceptional soloists who also happen to blend perfectly together. SELAH has a knack for selecting a strong repertoire that mixes the familiar with forgotten gems. The group intermingles Congolese, Irish, R&B and pop melodies alongside hymns and worship songs into what has now become know as the “Selah sound.” Finally, there’s the name itself. Drawn from the Psalm of David, selah suggests taking the time to pause and reflect, even as their music invites you to immerse yourself in the joy that is conveys.
Fort Bend Performing Arts Series is pleased to present SELAH in concert on April 29, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. The venue will be the worship center of Williams Trace Baptist Church located at 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas. Tickets are $20 and all seats are reserved. Tickets can be purchased online at www.fbpas.org or by calling Suzan Dortch at 281-275-6527.
